Mantra-recital
Each Sunday evening there is meditation
at 18:00 hours followed by a mantra-recital.
Before a passage from Sri Aurobindo's works is read out.
After a short break the sacred syllable OM
is chanted, accompanied on a harmonium.
The syllable sounds like AUM when chanted. Om represents the so called
Turiya-state, the fourth state. This is a state of total awareness that
permeates the three common states being awake, dreaming and sleeping.
OM comprises these three levels but also transcends them.
Om also represents the apersonal Brahman, which is considered to be the
ultimate reality. "... I am the sacred syllable OM among the words.
Among the acts of worship I am Japa. ..." (Bhagavad Gita chapter
10, verse 25 – Krishna to Arjuna)
After the Om-recital different Sanskrit mantras from the
Bhagavad Gita, the Isha Upanishad and other ancient Indian texts are
recited.
Each mantra is recited slowly and in short phrases by Padmakar Mirajkar
and is then repeated by the group.
All participants get a paper with the phonetic spelling and a German
translation of the mantras. So the mantras can also be studied at home.
Mantras convey a deep spiritual meaning and
they have the power to clean our mind. Thoughts are directed towards a
greater truth - thoughts of fear and sorrow disappear. Reciting mantras
with faith, love and endurance has a positive influence on our whole
being.

Karmanyevaadhikaaraste
Maa Phaleshu Kadaachana
Maa Karmaphalaheturbhooh
Maa te Sangostvakarmani
Thou hast a right to action,
but only to action, never to its fruits;
let not the fruits of thy works be thy motive,
neither let there be in thee any attachment to inactivity.
Bhagavad Gita, chapter II, Verse 47
